INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES

Parents and elders form the pillars of the edifice called family, defined as a group of descendants of a common ancestor and their children living together as a unit. By and large of patriarchal lineage, families with matriarchal ones also exist...

Beginning with the child, the gift of parenthood, being bathed with father's instructions and mother's teachings, family bonding is the quality time that one devotes to doing activities together to inculcate human values for the betterment of the individual and the society at large...

It is fine to say that family gives a sense of belonging, shelter, security, a seat of learning of morals etc., but sweeping societal and economic changes have had it's effects on human ties and family bondings lately. The large joint families with many closely-knit members each living together as a community in itself, have given way to small, and perhaps insensitive, nuclear ones. Parents busy with their careers, and with the kids usually left for themselves, the essence of inter-connectivity and family bonding tends to go out the window...

The idea of family can differ on an individual level depending upon his/her experiences. This is where the attached picture quote on 'loyalty' comes in, indicating the complexity of human relationships. And though you could choose your friends and not your neighbors, it would invariably be the latter to be of immediate aid, much earlier than the former or even relatives...

The original definition of a family could be quite different today, and in future as well. You may have blood relatives, but isn't a given that they always care. People who come to your aid when all known ones turn you down, who would save your life risking theirs, and friends who stretch a helping hand no matter what, are your family...

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
