THE FLIGHT OF FLIES

The world heard yesterday about Japan alleging that Russian and Chinese military planes carried out joint exercises near her airspace during the QUAD meeting in Tokyo, and her defence minister calling it “provocative” enough, sent jets to ensure that everything is out of harm's way...

If true, were those "flies in the skies?"  😄

Coming back to our own lives, being privy, acoustically if not visually, to neighbourhood conversations is not uncommon. The American phrase of the 1920s, "fly on the wall" came to mind, which refers to the position of being a strategic, yet unnoticed and uninvolved observer of a situation - precursor of futuristic spies...  😄

Thanks to technology, rapid strides have been made in the realms of communication and investigation. On the flip side, we get bombarded with all sorts of information and news stories, by both electronic and print media, and quite often acts of violence dominate the headlines...

In view of the above it is important that we don't get unnecessarily provoked by them. For, by continuing to keep our focus on whatever is being told to us, the 'affect component' of all such sensational information could have a deleterious influence on our psyche...

Provocation, anger and reaction are the natural consequences, and the feedback cycle could continue, perhaps even with ripple effects. Practicing emotional distancing is a part of ire management. Heated situations are bound to crop up. A retort of anger could backfire as it increases the chances of future retribution...

Emotionally distancing yourself from such explosive situations, just like a fly going on unperturbed amidst everything, settling on the walls as per it's will, is perhaps the key...

It pays to be a fly on the wall... 😄
