CUISINE AND WAR


The high-profile collective Kyiv visit by the Italian PM Mario Draghi, the French President Emmanuel Macron and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, being regarded as one of the biggest displays of European support since Russia's invasion, has perhaps to some extent countered a growing criticism of the West's concerns on Ukraine. The Romanian President Klaus Iohannis joined them later on... 

Their endorsement of Ukraine’s EU candidacy could have been music to the ravaged nation struggling to reclaim lost grounds on their eastern fronts. The lengthy process could tentatively begin today... 

Committing to military and economic support to Ukraine as long as necessary, concerns were raised about Russian brutalities, war crimes' retribution and lifting of blockade of Ukrainian ports for export of foodgrains... 

President Macron and Chancellor Scholz recently faced criticism after some trifle pro-Russian leniency statements...

As against this, the haughty stance of the Russians continues, be it Mr. Putin, Mr. Lavrov or Mr. Medvedev. The former Russian President and PM Mr. Dmitry contemptuously dismissed the visit to Kyiv by “European connoisseurs of frogs, liverwurst and pasta”, as a purposeless exercise...

Was it really necessary for the Russian to attack French and Italian cuisine?? Were such comments warranted, or even desirable in the context of international discourse? That propaganda is certainly over the top...

Even for a person not directly involved, like me for instance, the comments coming from someone who had held important positions in his nation and still holds one, are grotesque and absurd. Here is one, whose nation is trying to reduce her neighbour, just a speck in comparison both in area and ammunition, to pulp on an arguable pretext of what they claim as being 'righteous.'...
