INDEPENDENCE DAY UKRAINE 🇺🇦


Ukraine's 32nd independence day marks six months of the war which began this Feb 24, the aggressor being hopeful of snatching a victory in a matter of few days. The conflict having somewhat changed the world order, none imagined that it would see this day either...

With a series of sanctions against Russia, most of the world came together in their own ways to provide succour. The intensity though having waned, a slow war of attrition still simmers in Ukraine, with Russia’s alleged misdeeds betraying the concept of Slavic brotherhood...

With Russia occupying over a tenth of Ukraine since invasion, reducing several areas to rubble, hitting the latter's economy and usurping nuclear plants, in addition to alleged war crimes, the conflict has led to the largest refugee crisis since WW2...

It could be argued that the international system failed to restrain Russia - diplomacy, US threats, NATO beef-up etc - despite the latter's oft-repeated verbal nuclear brandishment. And now the same system is perhaps finding it arduous to aid Ukraine seek justice...

There is a perception that US (and allies) though having done quite a bit logistically for Ukraine, perhaps did not foresee - and thus did not inform the nation and the rest - a long drawn out affair coming...

The war has elevated President Zelenskyy's global stature. His conscientiousness and courage has been inspirational, going by his declining of both safe passage and truce, as also his addresses to the world...

It is possible that Kremlin misjudged the fallout of the 2014 EuroMaidan uprising of Ukraine's resolve to part ways. Ukraine’s state institutions' endurance bears testimony to her grit, what with the continuance of banking, commerce, educational institutions and healthcare sectors to name a few...

The sheer mortality of innocents, 7 million EU scattered refugees, global support for Ukraine possibly fading away with time due to domestic fiscal issues, Russia perhaps winning the energy game, and with Switzerland continuing to be neutral, we would perhaps be observing the conflict's anniversary as well in a similar fashion, in February 2023...

WORLD BRAIN DAY

22nd of July is observed as World Brain Day since 2014. The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
