INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD


With reports of not-so-pleasant news about women's issues emanating from some areas of the world in the recent past, we today observe the 10th anniversary of the International Day Of The Girl Child...

The ball which was set rolling in 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing, the first such to address the issue of girls’ rights, finally found favour with the UNICEF from this day, in 2012...

The International Day Of The Girl Child aims to promote equality, global safety and a level playing field in addition to empowerment and freedom of expression for and of the girl child...

The theme for this year is -
"Our Time Is Now — Our Rights, Our Future."

Much work still needs to be done as regards all forms of discrimination, exploitation, child marriage, harassment, abuse and violence, educational barriers etc. against the girl child, with factors like humanitarian conflicts, local traditions and oppression, the recent pandemic etc. aggravating them...

The day reminds the world and it's organisations and support groups to renew their pledge and to put in place reformative policies and programmes to ensure fair play and parity...

The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
