"THE MARCH OF 31ST"

Here comes yet another 31st of March, encompassing quite a few events of significance, as we all prepare to march onto April...

In India, for various reasons, the day marks the end of the financial year. We join the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Japan in this regard...

It was this day in 1889 that the iconic Eiffel Tower was officially opened. The tallest man-made structure in the world at 984 feet, a record that stood for 41 years till the Chrysler Building in New York, 1930...

It was this day in 1966 that the USSR launched Luna 10, the first satellite to orbit the moon...

It is said that Starbucks served its first latte in Seattle, this day in 1971...

A referendum this day in 1991 received a 99.5% electorate approval that gave the Republic of Georgia her independence...

This day in 1999 saw the release of two huge movies - The Matrix, and 10 Things I hate About You, the romantic adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew...

While the National Crayon Day began in 2007, so did International Transgender Day of Visibility from 2009...

While The International Day of Drug Checking began in 2017 to create awareness about drugs and their effects, and to create a drug-free world, it was this day in 2018 that the Armenian Revolution began...

And on a sombre note, while 31st March bade farewell to Isaac Newton (1727), J. P Morgan (1913) and Jesse Owens (1980), the most unfortunate was the demise of Brandon Lee (1993), under tragic circumstances, 30 years ago on the sets of cult comic book film ‘The Crow.’...

WORLD BRAIN DAY

22nd of July is observed as World Brain Day since 2014. The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
