WELCOME MARCH 2023

With time and temperatures (at least in the Indian subcontinent) galloping, here comes March, the month named after the Roman God of War. Waking up nature from her slumber, March ushers in the lively greenery of landscapes along with the joyful spirits of the Daffodils, Bloodstones and Aquamarines...

Today is Zero Discrimination Day, which has been in place since 2014, aiming to promote equality before law in all member countries of the UN, especially with regard to HIV/AIDS and LGBT...
 
It would be in the fitness of things to remember Prof. Gary Stanley Becker, the 1992 Economics Nobel Laureate, whose analysis in the late 1950s would, decades later, extend the purview of economics to include racial discrimination, thus revolutionizing the field of research in the science of socio-economics...

In Becker’s words, discrimination is irrational economics with consequences both for those wronged and those who engage in such practices...

On another note, the entire universe and nature are inherently selfless, joyful and without bias. Yet humans, a major constituent endowed with intellect, remain relatively unhappy and self-centered. If nature doesn't discriminate, who and what give us humans the right to do so?...

The chirping of birds, the fruits of the trees, the heat and light of the sun, the beauty of the moonlight etc. all these are phenomena sans any motives. But man, in general, works for profit, concentrating on acquisition, of things, of power...

There is nothing wrong with acquisition and enjoyment. What is necessary is the use of intellect to decide their quantum. Nature has enough for everyone’s need, not greed. Acquiring anything in excess would not only lose it's charm, but could also prove detrimental in the long run. It is the role of the intellect to thus choose wisely...

Let us all march towards peace and harmony...
