BASTILLE DAY


Friends, Food and Fireworks complete the trio for France's perfect Bastille Day which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14th, 1789, an event that marked the beginning of the French Revolution, and seen as the first victory of the people of Paris against 'The Last' Louis XVI's regime...

The day acquires significance for India since her current premier was the guest of honour on this memorable occasion. Incidentally, this year marks 25 years of strategic partnership between France and India, with the military parade performed by troops from both nations. The previous instance of an Indian premier as a guest was in 2009...

The storming of the Bastille prison had set a precedence of sorts, with ordinary citizens taking to the streets vocalizing for a constitutional system of democratic government. The first Fête de la Fédération, signifying the unity of the French population was held on the same day the following year, 1790...

Many countries around the world, those with ties to France, celebrate Bastille Day. Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Czech, Ireland, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and US to name a few, in their select areas...

The day was marked on a sombre note in 2016 when Tunisian Lahouaiej-Bouhlel (31) drove a 19- tonne cargo truck into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the city of Nice, killing 86 and injuring over 400. The Islamic State had later owned up for the ghastly attack...

To end with the good news, that India launched Chandrayaan-3 today afternoon, her third lunar exploration mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh...

The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
