INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP


30th July stands for quite a many observances like National Whistleblower Day, Share a Hug Day, National Father-in-Law Day, National Cheesecake Day, Paperback Book Day etc. in addition to International Day of Friendship, it being the first Sunday of August for some nations...

Hallmark Card's original idea of the 1930s fructified by way of the World Friendship Day, this day in 1958, initiated by Paraguayan Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho and his group World Friendship Crusade, which duly got the UNGA recognition in 2011 as International Day of Friendship...

The theme for 2023 is -
"Sharing the human spirit through friendship."

Friendship, something so beautiful beyond words, without any levels or barriers, is however, by and large, quite specific. Just as different flowers in a bouquet, each person has his or her own aura, traits, choices and effects. While being a topic on which volumes could be written, just a few thoughts came to my mind...

Having trusted and empathic friends is one of life's greatest blessings. While friends who make time to accommodate you in the midst of their busy schedules deserve utmost respect and consideration, be sure not to lose those invaluable ones who come to your aid unscheduled...

While being a genuine wellwisher in all aspects of friendship, it is a commendable practice to give without remembering and receive without forgetting, and also to appreciate and give credit wherever, even faintly, necessary...

While feelings play a very important role, some friends are always important with or without conversation. We remember people who made us feel good, eg. parents, grandparents and relatives, in addition to friends, with their unfailing love. Why, even successful politicians appeal to our feelings, not to our logical mind though... 😀

Be on the lookout for friends whom you would be comfortable with, whom you can converse with for hours and seek to be understood, for the ones who can make you laugh till you cry, and for the ones who say they are there, and mean it because they always show up...

I end by saying that human relationships have always been intricate and mystifying, and that the best thing about the worst time of your life is that you get to see the true colours of everyone... 🙂

The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
