REMEMBERING A STATESMAN

BHARAT RATNA SHRI. A. B. VAJPAYEE
(25 Dec 1924 - 16 Aug 2018)

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal."

Inarguably one of the best parliamentarians our nation has ever had, Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha ten times and to the Rajya Sabha twice, a record which stands till date...

The principled and conscientious statesman that he was, Atalji who took oath as India's Prime Minister on three occasions, endeared himself to one and all, across the spectrum, by his humble and poetico-literary disposition, affability, liberal worldviews and commitment to democratic ideals...

Indeed, Atalji belonged to an era where political discourse had some relative decency, with brinkmanship hardly ever being resorted to. For, his famous pauses between words had more impact and gravitas than the speeches of present day orators...

We unfortunately lost the services of his experience and wisdom as Atalji slipped into political oblivion soon after the 2004 general elections...

While paying our tributes to this tall figure on his 5th Punyatithi, and whose leadership we sorely miss these days, Atalji left a void which, as things stand, seems almost impossible to fill...
