NATIONAL MENTORING DAY

Initiated by entrepreneur Chelsey Baker of UK in 2014, National Mentoring Day got the official national day status in 2016...

It is commonplace to find mentors with proficiency in various fields in this age of specialization, ranging from academics and sports to life in general. I often wonder, whether it is a necessity or just a fad...

A mentor is a guide, advisor and supporter conversant with your challenges, trying to hone your attributes for you to realise your full potential using their expertise...

From Socrates, Plato and Aristotle to Stephen Covey, Bob Procter and Robin Sharma, mentoring has been there in the past, and will continue to do so...

In fact I would add that every generation has mentors in the form of parents, teachers, family and friends, almost like a package deal. For me they used to be our "Google", for information, opinion and advice...

Mentorship has become specific these days, in accordance with one's dreams and ambitions, the experts trying to channelize one's innovative creativity to it's zenith, aiding to become the best version of oneself...

While mentors may not be able to fix or be a panacea for everything, they lend good ears, are empathic, always encouraging and supportive, providing constructive and honest feedback...

While mentors don't necessarily have to be old, mentoring benefits the mentor as well by way of improving communication and leadership skills, and thus job satisfaction...

Let us also remember God, our supreme mentor. From our entry into this world till our last breath, the Omnipresent Divine protects us from harm's way, helping us at every step of our sojourn here till we get back to Him...
