The sense organs numero uno, eyes are the natural cameras to our surroundings, aiding in intellect, interactions and safety. The sights our eyes provide go a long way in the making of our vision, the interpretations of what we see, something so very important in our daily lives, to appreciate the several aspects of mother nature...

The theme for 2023 is -
"Love Your Eyes at Work."

The day aims to address the value of eye care at workplaces, of regular eye check-ups, of early detection and treatment of eye conditions, vision impairment and blindness...

Apart from occupational diseases, myopia, cataract, glaucoma and presbyopia are the common ailments associated with the faculty of sight...

With increasing awareness of eye and organ-donation, corneal transplantation has become routine these days. Also eyelid and tear-duct transplants, in cases of injuries or burns, have seen the light of the day. Advances in stem cell research promise panacea for intractable ailments of the retina, the chief nerve element of the organ of sight...

While it is natural to be reminded of several greats like Homer, Louis Braille and Helen Keller, it would be in the fitness of things to pay our gratitude to the innumerable eye donors, and also to those who have pledged theirs...

The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis..
