DESTRUCTION, DEATH AND DESPAIR


It has been a month of hostilities between Israel and Hamas militants, with around 10,000 lives, mostly Palestinian civilians already lost. Caught off guard on October 7, the ensuing Israeli military strikes to “wipe out” Hamas has plunged the region into a deep humanitarian crisis...

While it is basic that human suffering is in itself wrong, all the more for innocents to suffer. Such acts should never be defended regardless of its victims, and no cheers needed for either side...

While Hamas' men crossed over to kill, Israeli forces killed "animals" and Palestinians out of “collateral damage." The ground invasion of Gaza with blocked routes and blockade is evil, with terrible human costs, a wrong for a wrong, which doesn't make a right...

The war has, at least for now, changed a few views firmly held for some time. The Israeli PM's persistent efforts to manage, instead of solving the conflict, perhaps backfired, which could even cost him his job at the end of the tunnel...

The invincibility of Israel’s intel, hi-tech military and surveillance of Palestinians and travelers, covert operations and precision-strike capabilities, fortified borders along with Israel's sense of security, had taken a beating...

While US has in the past acted as peace-mediator, her objectives often seemed contradictory by allowing Israel to expand settlements, at the same time calling for a Palestinian state...

In the absence of an exit strategy as and when the dust settles, while Tel Aviv may not be too keen to control Gaza, US continues to talk of a two-nation formula that has been elusive for around three decades. Would it happen now?

Justice can be found only through reconciliation that all lives are holy, and that there are good and kind people on both sides who deserve utmost respect. In all logic, only a two-state solution could calm frayed nerves, with the two sides agreeing to see the humanitarian writing on the wall...
