CHRISTMAS WITH A DIFFERENCE


Christmas 2023 has arrived. However, headlines greeting us with news of violence, hatred, caste and religion based discriminations, along with wars and destruction, have become commonplace over the past couple of years. Undoubtedly, excellent recipes to mar any festival or season...

Prior to October 7th who would have imagined the Holy Bethlehem to be deserted during Christmas, without the Tree, lighting, bands and the hustle and bustle, with it's economy on a tailspin...

The significance of Christmas could vary from person to person, ranging from love and warmth, faith, introspection, community service, self-development, home improvements, quality time with relatives and friends etc. While fortunate are those who are able to enjoy the season in the right spirit, there would certainly be many homes as things stand globally, for obvious reasons, in gloom and darkness, yearning for succour...

In the words of Pope Francis, we are in the throes of "Piecemeal WW3." Selfishness, greed, money, power, ego etc. have led to a free fall in humanitarian ideals and considerations. And most disturbing of all is the absence of even a shadow of a solution on the horizon...

Let us therefore this Christmas spare thoughts for all those unknown to us, for their wellbeing in all aspects, prayers for those down and out, prayers to lessen someone’s pain and agony, prayers to restore a smile on someone’s face and so on and so forth...

Let us hope that such collective efforts emanating from the bottom of our hearts, in some mysterious ways, make a positive difference to peoples' lives wherever necessary...

WORLD BRAIN DAY

22nd of July is observed as World Brain Day since 2014. The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
