GIVERS

The attached quote from a 'good morning' contact comes on the back of the 'day of giving' St. Stephen's Day in memory of the first Christian martyr Stephen, who was stoned to death, c34 AD...

Sounding like a boxer's favourite day, the counterpart of Black Friday in the UK and Commonwealth, Boxing Day is that exciting day of the year when you are offered amazing deals for the stuff you recently purchased, at half the price...😀

While the real 'boxing' could be said to be the efforts needed to repack the holiday decorations into their containers, the day could be ideal for a nap, depending upon one's fatiguability and slumber...🙂

The heroics of Cassius Clay and Patterson, during my school times, made me (erroneously) link Boxing Day cricket Test match down under with the pugilistic sport, until I realized the connection with the Commonwealth, it's special meaning especially in the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, and also in some European countries...🙂

Back to the quotes, two words - generous and selfish - caught my eye. All of us am sure, by the grace of God, have been fortunate to experience the joy of giving at some point in time. For me, giving should be a matter of joy; effortless, graceful and unconditional...

Is it that if one doesn't watch out for selfishness, one becomes a 'miserly giver?' I did a search for the types of 'givers', and found three basic ones. The 'Grudge Giver', who hates to give but falls in line; the 'Duty Giver' who gives out of some religious faith; the 'Thanks Giver' who gives out of gratitude...

Despite the saying that 'if you are a giver, please learn your limits because some takers don't have any', I would opt for the last type above, any day, eyes closed...🙂

I sign off with this quote by Harold S. Kushner -
"Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are."
