INTERNATIONAL HUMAN SOLIDARITY DAY


Year 2005 saw the 1st International Human Solidarity Day in the hope of uniting the world as one, for the common good. It’s relevance cannot be overemphasized as things stand today, what with so much of mistrust, acrimony and sadism prevailing as I type this...

The theme for 2023 is -
"Advocate for Change."

While it is said that as against one scaling a mountain, a big well-organized group could move the same, the power of collective efforts and the concept of each person knowing something are at the core of any association. The bundle of tied sticks, or the human chain, underline the power of unity and the strength of togetherness, giving a sense of belonging, recognition and moral support with an overall better performance of the individuals...

Not long ago, the pandemic demonstrated how the world, like never before, came together to work for an altruistic goal, crossing all barriers for the WHO's “Solidarity Trial" of March 2020. Today I am stunned by the indiscriminate use of ammunition on unarmed people, on the verge of being reduced to unwanted refugees...

While one would have loved to see a spirit of "we are all in this together" along with actions of empathy this day, it pains to note the UN's frantic efforts for a halt to violence being thwarted by a few which, excuse me, gives room for a suspicion of complicity...

Wars, poverty, famine, climate change, migration etc. are few of the challenges faced by people and communities that politicians and nations need to effectively address...

While optimal world peace still remains a pipedream, nothing should prevent us from working towards it. Randomly thinking, we need more of unity, compassion, kindness, acceptance, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, trust and hope, along with the wisdom to act judiciously in these directions...

My solidarity remains with the likeminded, with universal values, with an endeavor to make the world a better place to live in, in all senses of the terms of equality and social justice...

WORLD BRAIN DAY

22nd of July is observed as World Brain Day since 2014. The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... The day aims to educate people regarding brain health, to help people afflicted with neurological disorders, and to the furtherance of research and advances in therapies and prevention... The theme for 2023 is - "Brain Health and Disability: Leave No One Behind"... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
