The credit for such a day coming into being, from 2012, goes to the then US secretary of state, Ms. Hillary Clinton, who on 8th November 2012 at "The Wildlife Trafficking and Conservation" meet quoted -
“Wildlife cannot be manufactured. And once it’s gone, it cannot be replenished. Those who profit from it illegally are not just undermining our borders and our economies; they are truly stealing from the next generation.”
The theme for 2023 is -
"Partnerships for wildlife conservation."
Human greed knows no bounds, with fauna trading and killing for skin, tusks, horns, nails, etc., indiscriminate forest clearance and wildlife habitat loss, all of which are on the rise. In addition to the loss of wildlife affecting tourism and economy, poaching takes toll of forest patrol staff too, as also the risk of pandemics...
Despite apt artificial alternatives for animal parts and products the menace of poaching and killing of wildlife continues unabated, often with underworld patronage. We citizens thus need to put in efforts towards conservation of nature's magnificent creations in ways that we can...
Raising awareness of the importance of wildlife-environment connection, speaking up against illegal wildlife trade and sale of animal products of fancy, speaking for protection of endangered species and their habitats are few steps one could think of in a flash to counter the greed of some threatening to cause irreparable harm to the ecosystem...
