SIX HAPLESS MONTHS

It is exactly six months today that the Israel-Hamas conflict ball was set rolling, with it's consequent escalation into a regional crisis and the rising number of key players sending West Asia into a state of flux...

Condemning the horrendous October 7 attack unequivocally, it has also to be admitted that much water has flown under the bridge with the staggering humanitarian crises and the tragic loss of lives, the latest being on April 2, 2024, when seven aid workers without borders from the US charity World Central Kitchen were martyred by the Israeli forces...

Evidently, US has had a pivotal role to play, which includes the Israel-Saudi rapprochement that began earlier to the unrest; the conflict has now brought the neglected Palestinian issue to the fore in the regional socio-political mainstream for any further headway between the two nations...

In addition to the above, world support on the two-state solution is slowly growing bigger and stronger than perhaps never before. The clamour for a ceasefire, and it's "inexplicable" delay, are factors with abilities to influence the US hustings during the year's end...

While the Israeli government has not spelt out any exit plan, the conflict has perhaps blunted US's dominance in the region. Certainly, release of hostages and POWs and aid to Gaza would be central to any ceasefire, which should essentially take place without any delay...

West Asia needs a new power balance, with nations in the region serious about the Palestine issue and rehabilitation, and to put out the cinders ignited by the various groups. Peace talks between the main stakeholders - Israel, the Arab world, Iran, Yemen, US, and various proxies - seem to be the only way forward...

While one could defend or justify it, war can never be an excuse. Let us never forget that in a war or a battle the only one who wins is the weapons supplier. Humanity loses on both sides...

Hope gives us strength to utilize the opportunities and to aid in the vision that everything would get better and streamlined, benefiting all. Hope is our life jacket, keeping us afloat even in the midst of a hurricane. Hope keeps the meaning of our lives alive...

God bless us all...
