WORLD VOICE DAY - 16 APRIL


Beginning as the Brazilian National Voice Day in 1999, Argentina and Portugal joined hands to make it the 'International Voice Day.' With sponsorship from the American Academy of Otolaryngology in 2002, the day came to be known as 'World Voice Day.'...

The theme for 2024 is -
'Resonate, Educate, Celebrate.'

Unique as a person's identity, voice needs utmost care. The day is to honour all those who use their voice for work or pleasure, to aid them take care of it, to impart training and rehabilitation, and to support voice research...

While there is a big list of voice disorders, the three most common ones are laryngitis, vocal nodules and neuromuscular weakness. However, apart from it's anatomy, physiology and pathology, I wish to digress, on this day, to some other aspects of voice...

Voice is an essential medium of communication, of feelings, passion, viewpoints, ideas, vocation, fine art and so on and so forth; to raise it for what is right, comfortable or otherwise; to opine at forums thus opening avenues for knowledge enhancement. In a way, voice is a superpower if used in the proper manner...

It would be worthwhile remembering that every voice has something different to offer. And especially in times that we live in, assertion of freedom and principles of natural justice need voices to be raised against the dispensations feigning deafness. A promising symbol of hope, voice could perhaps be the only ammunition at one's disposal...

Using one's voice for the truth is important to create a better world. Everyone’s voice matters. Though not something easily pilferable, subduing of voice could be the earliest indicator of a shift away from democracy, currently the most lauded political system. Voice is a potent weapon of change, by way of garnering support and unity...

So in short, voice is a gift that ought to be shared, underlining the remarkable evolution of humankind. The ability to speak, read and write empowers one to be an influencer for the common good. Who else would if we don't, lest the world lose out on a legacy with tremendous potential for posterity...
