THE ART OF ASKING QUESTIONS

Having received the above quote from a close contact I did try to find it's author, but to no avail. Nevertheless it reminded me of an article that I read, just about after this new year, the picture message of which I have attached alongside...

While one ought to be a good listener, the knack of asking questions is equally important, for it is sort of evidence that one has indeed attentively heard what had been spoken...

Good questioners are perceived as more amiable, lightening the atmosphere for other participants, paving way for quality and innovative discussions...

Asking a thought provoking question implies that the person has done his/her homework well to justify proactive involvement in the concerned topic...

A thought provoking question promotes good interaction between participants, who get their chance to speak, thus enhancing comfort, trust, competency and expertise without being accused of being haughty...

It is desirable that questions be brief and impactful, so as to provide enough time to listen to the others' points of view, for both information and solutions...

A good question should initiate new ways of thinking, of widening the conversation, of challenging held beliefs, and of visualising new solutions than the existing ones...

Most of us are by and large contented with ensuring that we always say the right thing in a conversation, as opposed to asking the right questions. However, progress is made only when curiosity is evoked, by asking questions having the potential to 'raise the bar', so to speak...
