RESPECTING LIFE



Every life is made up of moments and memories to be cherished and reflected upon by those close, after one's departure from this world. This final rite is sort of a 'gratitude' shown by the lives touched by the deceased...

Benevolent nature is mysteriously miraculous too. The video clip* - which has already done the internet rounds - of a female hornet giving her deceased partner a burial with honour is indeed worth watching. Digging the grave first, then fetching him flying held tight to her belly, placing him in the grave and burying him with respect, is just mind blowing. Hail to the Supreme who created such a tiny speck, abound with such unimaginable goodness... 🙏 🙌

No doubt a lonely funeral in terms of numbers, but perhaps a norm for them, placed phylogenetically at a lower level than us. It set me thinking, as to how do we extrapolate the above lesson, as applicable to us humans?...

While it is natural for the grieving family, friends and acquaintances to be present to pay their final respects, it is possible that a few pass away in solitude - the Covid-19 pandemic being just an aberration. Having had an experience of being part of a lonely one, I did some search and hit upon this article, "The Lonely Funeral."#

Dutch poet Bart Droog began the "lonely funeral" project in 2001 for precisely this, creating verses from whatever info of the deceased was available. This noble initiative spread to many Dutch and Belgian cities, and now to a group in Scotland as well...

We all are born with responsibilities, and ensuring an apt last journey to our nears and dears is one of them. There could be instances of incompleteness due to various circumstances beyond one's control, but it is important that the intent be sincere...

The nature of one's final send-off would always remain a conjecture. While true that it wouldn’t make a difference to the deceased, it probably does for those closely associated. Thus, almost always, the enormity of the goodbye rests on the societal stature of the departed...

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
