HIROSHIMA DAY - 6 AUGUST 1945

Today marks the 79th anniversary of HIROSHIMA DAY, an unique event in the history of the world...

Harry S. Truman, the then President of the USA deciding to drop the nuclear arsenal upon her adversary Japan; a decision which saw countless lives vanish from the face of this earth, ironically in the name of  saving thousands from the unending war...

And as Enola Gay dropped "The Little Boy" on Hiroshima this day, and Bockscar "The Fat Man" on Nagasaki three days later, it remains the only instance where a nation used nuclear weapons against another. Though it ended WWII at an inhumanely unimaginable cost, it is arguably yet the most terrible genocide till date...

With temperatures reported to have crossed 4000°C, and around 200,000 lives lost then, and many more dying later from injuries and illness, the world was badly shaken, leading to several anti-war and nuclear disarmament movements...

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons...

We ought to salute the vision, dedication and hard work of the Japanese citizens to have risen from the rubble to be among the top five economies of the world...

The day shall always remind us of the futility of war and its terrible destructive after-effects, and the need for universal harmony and peace. It is for us to pledge that we work together to ensure that the world doesn't witness such a day ever again...

🙏🙏🌹💐
