The theme for 2024 is -
"Empowering Communities Through Science."

An effective tool, science has been a boon to mankind and the world, empowering our lives with comfort and convenience in all aspects possible, with it's dendritic applications of physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. On the flip side some inventions have proved to be destructive, like high-tech weapons, chemical and nuclear arms, robots and AI - perhaps unintentionally - to name a few...

Less of a vocation and more of an adherence to an explicable way of thinking and explaining events by experimental observations, the role of science vis a vis peace and development in today's rather lopsided world cannot be overemphasized. Hunger, poverty, healthcare, energy, water and environmental issues etc. need proper application of scientific minds...

Surely the world shall see tools evolving for peace-building; only we ought to use them for creation, not for destruction. Resources being limited, conceit, unreasonable yearning and ambitions have no place in science. Once we reconcile to this reality, majority of conflicts and wars based on ego, power and greed would gradually peter out, helping build peace...

Critical thinking, questioning minds and proof-seeking based on ethics and intellect would lead us onto the highway of global peace, development and dignity of every citizen on this planet, all of which are seemingly distant if current scenarios are anything to go by...

The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RADIOLOGY

November 8th is observed as International Day Of Radiology as a tribute to the great German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays in 1895.. The 1845 born Nobel Laureate of 1901, Röntgen majored in Physics and completed his PhD at the University of Zurich.. Discovering X-rays accidentally while using cathode rays for images of his wife’s hand, which depicted the bones and the wedding ring, Röntgen had made a giant leap for mankind in medical diagnosis.. International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was first celebrated in the year 2012 with the combined efforts of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR)..
