WORLD WILDLIFE CONSERVATION DAY

Pioneering efforts by the then US secretary of state Ms. Hillary Clinton, ably aided by the US state department and the WWF, saw the emergence of the first World Wildlife Conservation Day in 2012...

The theme for 2024 is -
“Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation."

With the Sun at the strategic centre, the entire flora and fauna have annual events with almost clockwork precision, in accordance with the local weather patterns. Climate change is slowly but certainly upsetting their scheme of things...

Phenologically speaking, every species has a strong link to those in it's food chain sequence, the disruption of which can be of utmost importance to it's survival and longevity...

The ever increasing human insatiety has led to rampant poaching, with skin, tusks, horns, nails, etc. being 'flourishingly' traded, as also haphazard forest clearance with resulting wildlife habitat loss. These in turn affect the economy, not to speak of zoonotic health hazards. Invariably the threat to wildlife is aided by underworld support...

The importance of the wildlife-environment connection, countering illegal wildlife trade and sale of animal products of fancy, protection of endangered species and their habitats are some of the issues that need to be hammered in as often as possible, down the line...

Preservation of the plant and animal kingdoms ensures nature's bounties for future generations. Wildlife conservation is imperative, especially for species that are in danger of becoming extinct by unnatural causes such as pollution, climate change and reckless laws...

I conclude with these lines by Ms. Hillary Clinton, who had set the ball rolling in 2012 -

“Wildlife cannot be manufactured. And once it’s gone, it cannot be replenished. Those who profit from it illegally are not just undermining our borders and our economies; they are truly stealing from the next generation.”
