INTERNATIONAL TEA DAY 2025
Today marks the fifth International Tea Day, since it's inception under the UN banner in 2020. Tea Day, observed earlier on 15th December since 2005, was ratified to this day by UNFAO in 2019 at India's request in 2015...
The theme for 2025 is -
“Tea for Better Lives.”
The origin of the world's most popular beverage after water, the botanical Camellia sinensis, can be traced to North Myanmar and Southwest China, probably since about 5,000 odd years. An important cash crop, the Tea industry is a main source of livelihoods for millions of families in developing countries, and it's export a good source of revenue as well...
Many of the Tea producing regions are still economically lagging, and hence it's fair trade and access to international markets would enhance their resources, elevating their fiscal fortunes...
Easily affected adversely by changes in climate and soil factors, Tea cultivation needs favourable agro-ecological conditions found in countries like China, India, Nepal, Kenya, Srilanka to name a few...
And therefore, coupled with issues of climate change, global warming, carbon emissions and natural disasters, the coming together of Tea-producing nations could possibly address these concerns to modify their strategies for optimal yield and better quality...
By virtue of it's anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and weight loss effects, Tea consumption is considered favourable to health in addition to cultural significance in many societies...
