Doctors Day in India began in 1991 in remembrance of a great soul, a renowned physician, the second chief minister of West Bengal and the 1961 Bharat Ratna awardeee Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose Punyatithi coincides with his Janmatithi...
The theme for 2025 is -
"Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healer?"
It highlights the various predicaments faced by the medical fraternity whilst engaged in community healthcare...
Not long ago, the pandemic taught us humans quite a bit. Healthcare workers (HCWs) across the board grappled with an invisible enemy, sans adequate protection and protocols, for survival. Overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the task, coupled with the uncertainty of life all around them, they battled on to put Covid19 behind. Almost all of us since then, I suppose, have made alterations in our social, domestic, professional and fiscal and other fronts, in some form or the other...
I would thus prefer to dedicate this day to all Healthcare Workers, medical and paramedical, office staff, ambulance/hearse staff, morgue staff and not to forget the medical representatives, for the contribution of every person is instrumental in the overall success...
A HCW is duty-bound to patients, colleagues, family, society and last but not the least to oneself. Certainly a big deal of pressure in bringing out the best to focus on the service to the society at large. I belong to a tribe with a motto "If you aren't able to cure, at least do no harm."...
All things considered, the fact that our vocation is in a position to make a difference is adequate enough reason to keep all of us going despite all the added odds - read violence - against us...
Our salutes to all the healthcare personnel for their unflinching yeoman service...
🙏🙏
