VALENTINE'S DAY 2026



The day to share the fragrance of love and happiness in the air, as well as caring for our loved ones, friends, foes, and all of God’s creations. Without the necessity to splurge, but to show care, just being there for someone...

Love and togetherness mean everything in a relationship, requiring a minimum of two persons in good mental and emotional health, and preferably physically fit as well. Taking care of oneself develops kindness which spills over in showing the same to nears and dears and others in general. It could apply to a group, community and nations too...

One should have no qualms in putting one's needs first, because only that can realize one's best version. It enables one to "be present" in the loop, in all senses of the terms, including but not necessarily physically, in good times, distress and illness. To show commitment. To give an ear, and shoulder if need be. To respect other's feelings just as one would like others in reciprocation. Talking in the affirmative, with optimism and positivity. Restraining one's temper and learning to cope with stress, in a spirit of proactivism...

I agree it's all easy and nice to write, as all the above ideals can be hard to find. But try we must, for St. Valentine's sake...

Togetherness for the right purposes with the right person yields miracles. Let love, peace and harmony pervade our planet round the year, not only amongst our loved and special friends but also amongst the entire human race...

It is to be remembered that love and grief are two sides of the same coin - no grief without love, and love involves the risk of grief. Thus a day for Indians to pay homage to the soldiers martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, this day in 2019, when life took a new turn altogether for over 40 families. I am for some strange reason reminded of Rudyard Kipling's words -
"In times of war and not before, Gods and soldiers we adore. But in times of peace and all things righted, God is forgotten and the soldier slighted."

It is this essence of Valentine's Day that should be in our minds forever. Had hate and anger resolved all issues the world would have been a paradise long back. Love is divine. Love will always prevail...

22nd of July is observed as World Brain Day since 2014. The day was chosen during the 21st World Congress of Neurology held in Vienna on September 22, 2013 under the aegis of World Federation of Neurology, which incidentally was also formed on 22 July, in 1957... 14th June is observed as World Blood Donor Day, since 2005, in honour of the Austrian-American immunologist and pathologist, Karl Landsteiner (14 June 1868 - 26 June 1943).
